Nike Metcon 1 OG ‘Road to Metcon X’ Release Date

When I started my CrossFit adventure back in 2011, the Reebok Nano’s were really the only training shoe built and marketed specifically to the diverse functionality requirements of CrossFit. They were my go-to for years, so when Nike released the Metcon, I was excited for another option. The Nike Metcon 1 brought new stability, flexibility, and durability; as the first ‘real’ competition for the Nano, it marked a point that really accelerated the development of functional fitness footwear.

I purchased my first pair of Metcon’s in February 2015, right in time for the 2015 CrossFit Open, the first year I entered. So this re-release in the form of the Nike Metcon 1 OG is really nostalgic for me. It reminds me of the first year I went for the open, which was the first time I really felt connected with the CrossFit community.

Nike Metcon 1 OG Road to the Metcon X Release Date

Nike will release the Nike Metcon 1 OG on August 2nd, 2024, just days before the 2024 CrossFit Games. This date also sets the stage for the Metcon’s 10th anniversary and the release of the Nike Metcon X (10), which Nike is expected to drop in the same month.

The 1 OG will be released at $150, the same retail price as the standard models and the current price of the Nike Metcon 9.

You’ll be able to pre-order your pair of Metcon 1 OGs here.

Can’t wait that long? There are also some great deals currently on the Nike Metcon 9.

Nike Metcon 1 OG OutSole

For the re-release, Nike will launch the Metcon 1 OG in the “Road to Metcon X” colorway, a homage and celebration of the original grey-black and university-red colorway that the Metcon first launched with.

The 1 OG retains the Metcons’ original technologies to create a multifunctional shoe with a sturdy platform for weightlifting, flexibility for dynamic movements, and is durable enough to withstand intense workouts and use.

It incorporates a minimal 4mm heel-to-toe drop for stability during lifts, Nike’s Flywire technology for a supportive yet flexible fit, and a durable rubber outsole for exceptional grip during workouts.

Despite being a re-release, I expect to see some modernized tweaks to the original model, such as an increase in the level of recycled materials and the overall sustainability of the shoe in line with Nikes’ move to zero waste.

Final Thoughts

In my opinion, the first iterations of the Metcons were some of the best. As I use mine for more weight work, the wider base of the earlier models really gave me a solid base to work from, and I really put them through their paces, and they just never failed.

And I’m not alone in my thinking:

I hope you’re as excited as I am for the release of the Nike Metcon 1 OG. If you are be sure to check back to this page for further updates as I get them and I’ll have a full review once I get my hands on a pair.
